Helmet Head

Just when we thought Canaan couldn't be any cuter, he had to get a helmet. And really, what is more ridiculously adorable than a bobble head baby with a helmet on? To be honest, it kinda sucks.

His head gets stinky, the helmet makes him hot and uncomfortable, and it covers some of my favorite spots to smooch on, not to mention the weekly doctor appointments to get it adjusted and track progress.

The pediatrician mentioned that his head was asymmetrical at his 2 month appointment. We had not noticed it until the doctor pointed it out, which is a little scary because it was SO obvious! It was very flat on his left side and his ears were not lined up correctly. I always gravitated towards nursing and holding Canaan on the left side, and that was likely the cause of his head forming flat on that side.

We tried to avoid his left side and do more tummy time for over a month, but it was not rounding out on its own so we went to the cranial specialists that confirmed it was very crooked. Haha!

4-6 weeks of wearing the custom helmet for 23 hours per day should do just the trick. It's been about 2 weeks and we can already notice improvements!

^^This was our first appointment when they took pictures to measure for symmetry.

^^This was our next appointment where they took images to create his custom helmet. I was surprised that he didn't seem to mind the stocking covering his face! He really is so laid back and easy going!

He got his helmet the day after his 4 month shots, so he was already hot from running a fever.

He is normally in a diaper and bib since his helmet keeps him so warm. Look at all that CHUNK!

^Canaan is ALWAYS sucking on his tongue these days. His poor little gums are sore from teething.

Y'all! The double chin is just too much!
