19(ish) Months - In This Season Of Life

Canaan is a little over 19 months now, and in this season of life, we love Bob The Train and the first 20 minutes of Tarzan. Canaan's knees are always skinned up from his adventures, and he is obsessed with his Daddy! He asks all day about Daddy, and even yells out for "Shane" like I do! Haha! His face lights up when he notices a picture of Daddy around the house and he points and smiles!

Canaan loves to ring the surveillance doorbell we have because Shane can talk to him through the app. He rings it and yells "Daddyyyyyy!"

We are loving the warm Spring weather! We go on walks play outside for hours a day. Canaan insists on crossing the street (by saying "cwoss" as he balances on his toes on the very edge of the sidewalk) and pointing and saying "dat way" until we end up at the neighborhood playground. We are always shocked how far he walks each day - it is at least a few miles! We alternate between walking, running, and riding in the stroller, bike or wagon.

Canaan has a new found love for "kekup", and he still goes hard on some Easy Mac and Instant Oatmeal. His favorite toys are his bus that the Easter bunny brought him, his overpriced monkey that he thinks is a gorilla and his baby doll that we gave him when we told him he was going to be a big brother. It is so precious how nurturing he is with the baby. Don't get me wrong... he throws it and flings it all around, but he also cuddles it and pats it little back and says "oh no! baby cwying!"

We are working on our behavior and attention span during story time at the library - we go a few times a month and check out books and participate (as long as we don't disturb others!) I took him to the library much more often when the weather was cold, but this sunny weather has us craving the outdoors!

Canaan's 9th tooth just popped through, and we have caved to the paci obsession since he seems uncomfortable with the teething. We try to leave paci in the crib and car seat, but some battles just aren't worth fighting ... yet. I gave potty training a solid month's effort and came to the conclusion that he isn't developmentally capable of holding his pee yet. He would give me enough notice for poop to rush him to the potty (if you consider 2 seconds enough notice), but the pee just hasn't clicked. He also tries to manipulate the system and claims he has to go potty so he can watch YouTube, so we are going to take a break and try again when he is a little older. Ideally I will still have him trained before the next baby arrives at the end of September. In all the research I have done (which I will share in a future blog post once Canaan is successfully potty trained) the one underlying consensus is never to rush the potty training because it will have the opposite impact.

Canaan loves to shut doors, hide in the tupperware cabinet and do anything that Daddy is doing. Like I said ... he is obsessed, and it is the sweetest bond I could ever imagine! I am so thankful for my two boys, and can't believe I have another one on the way!
